Our Seniors Sub-Committee has been right on top of our collaboration with Meals-On-Wheels. We are purchasing small items desired/needed by seniors getting food delivered by Meals-on-Wheels and St. Patrick’s School Junior Giving Circle will help us sort and pack small gift bags and the M-O-W drivers will deliver them with the clients’ food just before Thanksgiving. |
Our team of Patty Williams, Mike Vonness, Linda Walsh, Joann Reetz and Evelyn will be going to the Berry Homes (NYCHA Housing) Friday to present our first children’s birthday party. There are 11 children who will get birthday bags and we will have music and games, food and fun for them and the 30+ other kids in the after school program. |
Mike Vonness has a personal friend in Ashville, NC and her church was one of the primary spots distributing much-needed food and necessities to the families who lost everything in Hurricane Helene. We also penned a RAK check to a local family known to Steve Shapiro whose little 2-year old boy is struggling with Neuroblastoma. |
Charlotte and the Literacy team are ready to kick off their first session at the Berry Homes (NYCHA Housing) on November 5th at 4:30. We can always use additional reading coaches. Please contact us if you are interested in joining Charlotte’s Team in the coming months. |
We had one winner this month, Joe Meizlik, chose to donate $240 to Blue Star Families. Please be advised that if you want to be included in each month’s charity raffle draw, you can pay ahead by sending a check or Paypal commitment for the number of months you want to be included. This way, if you can’t attend a meeting in person, you can still participate. |
The Richard & Lois Nicotra Foundation granted us $1000 for our Weekend Food Backpack Program, which currently provides food to 160 students per week. We received our annual allotment of underwear and t-shirts from Bombas. This donation is in addition to our huge delivery of Bombas socks earlier this year. Earlier this month we had a Dine Out at Canlon’s Restaurant and we received a $350 donation. Thanks to all who stopped by that day to support us. |

We get inquiries for teens looking to score service hours to satisfy school requirements. We have been recommending the students organize a collection of food (cereal, granola bars, fruit cups) to be used for our Food Insecurity initiatives. Students can create flyers, host the collection and deliver to the recipients for their service credit. Please contact us for a list of items needed. |
