Weekly update 3/11/25
Hopefully you are enjoying some outdoor time with these beautiful pre-Spring days. It’s hard not to be premature with gardening, etc. You must wait a little more! Last week was very busy, particularly with the Seniors’ Sub-Committee meeting and brainstorming. Thankfully, our very strong, involved group had loads of good ides for activities. We agreed that we had to zero in on DATE, VENUE, AND SELECTED AUDIENCES. We have contacted a number of previously-used and new venues including Canterbury Houses, Oakwood Heights Community Church (OHCC), Mt. Loretta Friendship Club and more. We want to expand our group of invitees to our senior “gives” because our community houses a big number of AARPs, seniors at the Berry Homes, seniors in Friendship club, seniors at New Lane and church groups of seniors. Unfortunately, our familiar group at Canterbury Houses is dwindling due to aging/ill health and less interest, but we don’t want to forsake those who still look forward to seeing us. So we are thinking to combine them at Eccleston Hall with New Lane people and host a karaoke afternoon. Jose Diaz has new, enhanced musical equipment and certainly is the very best MC for such an event. And guess who has volunteered to assist him with the seniors? Lynne Persing who has an absolutely beautiful, natural voice will help prompt/encourage the audience to participate. A second possibility for entertaining another group of seniors is a Comedy Performance by Jose, who is a professional comedian and two women comedians who Jose knows and respects. We might choose The Brielle for this idea. When using The Brielle for a senior “plan,” only residents of that facility are allowed to attend; therefore, we can’t bring in others, which is fine. This would be a new group of seniors for us (including Camille Stern who is now a resident) and we are filling an objective of widening our circle this way. We are thinking that the Comedy Performance would work well at OHCC to as they have a large AARP who regularly attend meeting there. The same thought (Comedy Performance) and/or karaoke would work at Mt. Loretto Friendship Club. Steve Shapiro is “working the room” with Mt. Loretto. Don’t forget that our monthly meeting is next week on Thursday evening, March 20, at 7 p.m. at The Hub. |
