Weekly update 2/4/25

Another busy week to report to you. Please notice several important news tidbits to follow.

First, we now have a link for you to utilize to purchase CHARITY RAFFLE tickets. This is convenient in case you can’t be physically present at meetings and/or want to pay ahead for a number of months. The link is: Charity Raffle tickets We have been made aware of two new organizations whose missions closely parallel our own. Husniyah Hassan made us aware of House of Good Deeds, led by Leon Feingold, Esq., Executive Director. Mr. Feingold’s cell phone is: 917-325-4548. In last week’s message, this group had acquired a donation of over 1,500 bedsheets and hundreds of pillows from a luxury hotel chain in Manhattan.

Then Lynne Persing made us aware of Off the Streets Staten Island (offthestreetsstatenisland.com). Contacts there are: Lisa Esposito and Debbie Sueich. Phone is: 347-987-0467. As their name indicates, they are looking to place homeless individuals into safe living spaces and look for furniture and household items. They are especially focused on finding futons and twin mattresses.

Our Military Food Pantry was open on Thursday, January 30 and the turnout of veterans was extraordinary. There were 89 veterans to be given food that day. There were 35 deliveries to veterans who are homebound, disabled or simply not able to pick the food up personally. The numbers are staggering considering that less than a year ago, we started with 8 veterans eligible for this program. And as early as this morning, Kathy informed me that she is looking to add veterans 90 and 91 to the roster for next time. Veterans must be registered in advance of the next opening. Please contact Kathy Barzal.

On Sunday (Feb. 2) a number of SIGC faithfuls accompanied Evelyn to B’nai Israel Synagogue where she received an Honoree Award from USIVO at their annual Four Chaplains Memorial celebration. They honored two Junior Achievers than a dozen adult Achievers showing the depth and dedication of community service here on Staten Island.

Onward to this coming week already filling up with Giving Circle news for next time.
