Ingenous Ideas
As the old adage goes, one thing many times leads to another! We are happy to inform you of an instance that is leading us toward a very successful extension of our recent Room Makeover Initiative Idea.
We are again attaching here the article that sparked an idea for the Staten Island Giving Circle and we wanted to update you on response and action.
The article, as you can read, prompted an immediate “copycat” idea for us to try at Project Hospitality’s Children’s Shelter. Our information gathering has encouraged us to morph the idea a little. PH has 46 units on Central Avenue, which, just in shear numbers is too big for a first bite. Michele then threw out a more sensible, equally beneficial second thought which we will explain here. But first, don’t think we cast PH aside. Charlotte then had an ingenious idea that will be used first at PH. It had been pointed out to us that one recurring problem at the shelter was that when the client was about to transition out into an apartment, he/she felt compelled to take the bedding/linens from the PH room they had been inhabiting. Charlotte pointed out that if these clients had their OWN bedding, they’d be more careful in its care and then really could, in good conscience, take the goods with them when they left PH. So, Charlotte suggested SIGC collect a large supply of Beds in Bags to give each unit in lieu of painting, primping each room (for now). So this Thursday message is sent to you all to urge each and every one of you to donate either $$$ or actual Bed in Bag to be gifted to the clients at the shelter. To keep monies for these supplies segregated, please send Evelyn checks earmarked for Beds in Bags or have the fun of purchasing the bundle yourself and drop them off at 240 Guyon Avenue. Can you please all take the time to participate in this Room Improvement. As we mentioned, there are 46 units but please note that there are 82 twin-sized beds….that’s a lot of bed rolls…..
So that this message doesn’t go on and on, we will send you a thumbnail sketch of our wonderful progress finding spaces in need of our attention and where we will begin our Room Makeovers. Suffice it to say, we are absolutely excited and blown away with the positive direction this new project is taking.
FOR TODAY, PLEASE THINK ABOUT CONTRIBUTING TO THE BEDS IN BAG CAMPAIGN FOR THE FAMILIES AT PH’S SHELTER. BTW, we are hoping to restart our Birthday Bashes (just dropping off birthday bags for now) within a week or so. Ev will be in touch with Tina Lesevic to jump start that idea.
